Hi, I’m Alonso. I direct & write films of all colors, shapes & sizes. I'm obsessed with the intersection of film & the internet. I’m currently active on web-series @fictionproject & feature film @thestoryofluke.
My passion project “The Story of Luke”, starring Lou Taylor Pucci, Seth Green, Cary Elwes and Kristin Bauer, will be released theatrically on April 5th in over 18 cities in the US and Canada as well as on iTunes and major Cable On-Demand platforms. I need your help to get the word out!
Since “The Story of Luke” had its World Premier at the San Diego Film Festival in September (winning Best Film), it has gone on to participate in over 20 film festivals and win another 4 Best Film Awards and 5 Audience Awards. We also received the support of Autism Speaks, the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization, and in January we were picked up for distribution by Gravitas Ventures.
This is where you come in. :)
Being an indie film, we don’t have the marketing budget of the big studios so anything you can do to help us get the word out helps. Here are some easy things:
If our film isn’t playing in your city or you can’t make it to a screening, rent it on iTunes or Cable On-Demand on our opening weekend & invite your friends to do the same! http://www.facebook.com/events/120128724843516/
“The Story of Luke” has been a labor of love for myself and a group of equally stubborn individuals and I couldn’t be prouder of the end result. I can’t wait for you to see it!
Guess what trailer just went up on iTunes Movie Trailers? “The Story of Luke” starring Lou Taylor Pucci, Seth Green, Cary Elwes & Kristin Bauer! Check us out! Less than a month to showtime!
Though at first glance Alonso Mayo’s The Story of Luke seems to be another entry into the tired “cute ‘n’ smarmy” army of indie films, at the end of the day it stands head and shoulders above its contemporaries largely due to an unforgettable protagonist who you can’t help but fall in love with. This film is pitch-perfect and though not groundbreaking in any way, it consistently hits the sweet spot with deeply touching moments that are guaranteed to win you over by the end.
(…) Mayo and Pucci work together to create a portrayal of a young autistic male with authenticity and taste. Luke is not a caricature, nor is his condition understated. He comes off as simply a good-hearted person with a daunting goal that he is fighting with all his might to achieve. Who couldn’t relate to that? Luke’s battles to overcome his difficulties with communication are sometimes humorous, sometimes heart-breaking. His bravery and conviction are infectiously endearing.
"Opening night was awesome!! Loved Story of Luke. What a great film. Thanks SAFF! - Catherine. “@thestoryofluke was amazing! Funny, heartbreaking and smart. Such a great opening night!” – Ashley."
This past year has been absolutely amazing for me because “The Story of Luke”, a feature film project that is incredibly close to my heart, not only finished post-production and is less than a week away from having it’s World Premier at the San Diego Film Festival (Saturday, September 29th @ 7:00pm), but because I couldn’t be more proud of the outcome. I want everyone to see “The Story of Luke” to experience Lou Taylor Pucci’s riveting lead performance, as well as Seth Green’s, Cary Elwes’ and Kristin Bauer’s awesome supporting roles. And I want everyone to see “The Story of Luke” because we set out to make a fun, entertaining & heartfelt movie about a subject that probably doesn’t strike most people as fun or entertaining, and we succeeded.
“Sheltered his whole life, Luke, a young man with autism, is about to embark on a quest for a girl and a job, and he won’t be taking “no” for an answer.”
This is just the start of our festival run and we are working hard to secure distribution but I would like to reach out to you and ask for your support for a handful of things you can do to help “The Story of Luke” right now:
1. Watch our Festival Trailer and if you love it please share it with your social network: http://youtu.be/WPZPm5ZUsg8
